Family Backyard Campout

After Christmas, the kids were still on break for another week. They decided one of the things they wanted to do before school started again was a campout. They spent several days building lean to's against trees. The goal was to use no tents and build a shelter out of the surroundings.

Above is Cruz's lean to. You can hardly see it because it blends so well. After all his sticks were up he added leaves for insulation and blackberry thorns on the top to protect from any predators :)

This was the start of both Kian and Dax's lean to. Kian slept in his and Dax didn't quite finish. Dax, Cameron, and Noelle slept under a tarp that was draped over those horizontal logs.

In the evening we built a campfire.

The kids had hotdogs and Cam and I enjoyed foil dinners. Then the requisite s'mores were roasted and eaten.

Dax accidentally melted a plastic fork and they thought it was hilarious.

For a survival campout, they said they slept really good. Although Cruz woke up with a sore back! If you're wondering where I was sleeping, that would be snug as a bug in my bed inside.  I like to camp, but not in 30 degrees on dirt...especially when a warm, cozy bed is so near :)

Cruz under his lean-to. Seeing that he was sleeping on a log I'm not surprised he had a sore neck and back when he woke up haha!
