Thanksgiving in Texas: Part 1

We arrived in Texas on Sunday night. Monday, the kids had fun at Grandma and Grandpa's neighborhood park for a long time.

I love this picture of Grandma and Noelle having fun swinging!!

Not pictured was the fun game of Monkey in the Middle we played. Even Grandpa Jimmy got in on the fun!

On day 2 Grandma and Grandpa had to go to work at the storehouse and we explored. First we tried a wildflower seed farm. It was a little bit of a disappointment because it was November and there were no wildflowers in sight. The kids did see a few butterflies and there were a lot of frogs to watch.

In Fredericksburg,  we found a park for the kids to get energy out. They played soccer and then played on a playground. We were waiting for Enchanted Rock park to open back up. If they fill up in the morning they close the park until the afternoon, which is what happened. We made it over there at 1:30 and waited an hour in a line of cars to get in.

Here is the beginning of the main trail to get to the summit of enchanted rock.

It is .6 miles to the top, walking up 400+ feet. The kids were so fast, I was totally panting to keep up with them. Cameron set his watch and said we made it in 9 minutes. No wonder I was tired!

This is looking back downhill, near the top. Some parts were really steep!

On the way down, Noelle wanted to walk. She was excited and jumping in this picture. She walked the whole way down on her own. Cameron had carried her most of the way up.

After we got down, we did a little more exploring and went on a flat trail around the park for a while. We started out in a river bed area that I don't think was a real trail but found our way out to the main trail pictured here.

The boys were infatuated with all the cacti. They picked up a few off the ground. Then they also wanted to try the red fruit on the top. They were very prickly and after picking them the boys spend lots of time getting the sharp hairs off their skin. They packed them in our hiking backpack and somehow those plants made in home with us.

Here we are at the summit of Enchanted Rock!
